In the sweltering July of midsummer, cicadas chirp nonstop and gentle evening breezes carry a mellow warmth. On July 18, crackling charcoal and rich meat aromas filled the factory yard of Mingrui Steel Plate, as the company’s 3rd annual barbecue team building kicked off lively in the parking lot within the factory compound.

At 4 p.m., temporary teams from all departments sprang into action, quickly transforming the cafeteria dining area into a bustling prep kitchen. No one stood idly by—every staff member pitched in. Working together to prepare the feast from scratch, the team gathered for this down-to-earth dinner to reward their hard work in the first half of the year and recharge for the challenges ahead in the second half.

Over at the washing station, fresh vegetables and fruits swirled in clear water glistening with droplets. At the chopping counter, skilled hands cut all ingredients into evenly sized pieces. Around the skewer station, everyone sat in a circle, holding bamboo skewers in one hand and threading meat with the other, focused with the same concentration they bring to operating precision industrial machinery.

Coordination is key on the production line, and the team embodied that same synergy during the event. Groups were assigned to set up tables and chairs, distribute drinks, hand out tableware, and deliver fruit—each team interlocking seamlessly like finely calibrated gears.

Platters of marbled pork belly, golden plump fish tofu, crisp green edamame, chilled smashed cucumber, and crispy fried small fish were neatly laid out on the tables. Cold bottled beverages and beer were set out alongside chunks of juicy, thin-rind watermelon cut into tempting red slices. Everyone stayed focused on their respective tasks, busy yet organized, showcasing the efficient execution capability of the Mingrui team.

It is often said that those who excel at leading teams can also master the barbecue grill. This year’s grilling duties fell to workshop foremen. The supervisors, who usually maintain a stern focus on product quality, donned aprons and stepped into the role of head grill masters for the day.

They flipped skewers on the grills with practiced ease, brushing oil, sprinkling seasonings, and turning the meat in one fluid sequence. The glow of the charcoal flushed their faces, and fat sizzled as it dripped onto the embers. Amid curling smoke and mouthwatering meat aromas lingered the genuine, simple warmth bridging Mingrui’s management team and frontline factory workers.
